Kerroo Beer Cans

A brewery with a mission statement built around disrupting the local market, an outlier whose existence shouts for attention.

Why shouldn’t the packaging do the same?

Kerroo Are You?

The challenge for a new brewery facing a shelf of established and trusted producers is getting noticed and turning enough heads to get the local mouths talking to each other about the new brew in town. Using the USP of an island-based brewery can also garner the same curiosity in overseas markets.

Flagship Ship

The can design for Porter Erin, flagship and first packaged ale, does this by using fragments of the area local to the brewery taproom to create an abstract layered artwork-forward can, without plastering clichéd ‘Manxisms’ on the front.

“Heybooooooooooy!”

While a clean character illustration for HEYBOY! reflects the inside joke of the local population. ‘Heyboy’ a universal greeting, an old pal, or the old fella around town.

The can designs also saw the beginnings of the brand’s custom can typeface ‘Kerroo Slab’. A hand-drawn slab-serif typeface with alternate glyphs for an authentic hand drawn feel, designed to reflect the brand’s independence, hands on approach and draw on the rich graphic history of the Isle of Man Steam Train, whose home is adjacent to the brewery. Full glyph set is currently under development.
